Announcing an Office Move June 6th
May 18, 2011
I would like to announce that I am moving my practice to a new location. My years at Jefferson Street Counseling & Consulting have been wonderful, and I am grateful for the time spent with Tim and Sue Furness, Lorn Adkins, Cheryle Jones Andrews, and more recently, Shirley O’Neil. The new office will keep me in the downtown area while providing a larger space for meeting with full families—a need which continues to grow in my practice.
I will be open at the new location on June 6th. The new office is located upstairs at 500 W Idaho Street in the historic Chandlee Building (home to Flying M Coffee & Guido’s Pizza). The building provides free parking and is conveniently accessible from downtown, the Connector, and the Warm Springs-Broadway area.
This move includes a change in phone number to (208) 495-4050, which clients and colleagues should begin using now. The new fax number is 333-1415.
I will continue my practice helping children and adults to eliminate their anxiety, stress and depression. In marriage and family therapy I additionally guide clients to have fewer relationship conflicts, to improve their communication and to adjust to divorce and stepfamily living. Finally, I will continue to accurately diagnose ADHD in children and adults, and to teach effective parenting strategies. Thank you, and please call if you have any questions about the transition. I look forward to serving you from the new location.
Beginning June 6th

New Resources on Academic Accommodations & Educational Rights (e.g. 504 Plans)
June 30, 2010
If your child or college student may need academic accommodations next school year, to show what he or she is truly capable of, it’s not too early to begin planning and “doing your homework.” Typically, parents who are well-prepared before ever requesting such services will have a good, cooperative outcome. Those who aren’t may be given the runaround or be wrongfully denied services for their child.
These newly added links help parents understand the basics of 504 educational plans and IEPs, how to prepare for multidiscipinary team meetings, and learn what you can and can’t reasonably expect from public schools.
To brainstorm and personalize a list of specific accommodations that will help your child in academics and classroom behavior, Dr. Hill is also happy to consult individually and then write a letter on your child’s behalf. Even in cases where parents have previously received significant “push back” from school officials, involving an outside specialist will normally lead administrators to see such requests as legitimate and to begin responding with cooperation and support.
Scroll down in Parenting Resources to the new section on Academic Accommodations and Educational Rights. Here you’ll find information for Idaho Parents Unlimited and Great Schools.org (Great Schools.org tambien presente su informacion en Espanol.)
Additionally, Dr. Hill and his colleagues at Jefferson Street Counseling & Consulting regularly offer free evening presentations on academic accommodations, school success, organization and similar topics. Dr. Hill to present on ADHD to the Idaho PTA
March 17, 2010
Dr. Hill has been invited to present recent research on ADHD at the Idaho PTA conference on Friday April 16th. Dr. Hill has given similar presentations in the past to the Idaho School Counselors Association and to St. Alphonsus Family Medicine physicians. The PTA presentation will review quite recent research on exercise and ADHD, plus lessons from brain scanning images, which medical and non-medical treatments are truly effective, what forms of assessment are valid, and the myths and facts about school-age medication misuse. If you would like to attend the Idaho PTA conference, more info can be found here. If your professional staff or organization would like to host a similar presentation, please contact the office at 495-4050.
